Kevin greeted me at the door, and his mom walked up to greet me as well. Words cannot express the love I felt at that moment when - after coming from my house, where my parents do nothing but spurn me - here I was greeted by my loving boyfriend, the sweet scent of their house, and Mrs. D opening her arms for a hug and simply saying, "Welcome home."
I still don't know if Kevin ever told his mom about what I was going through that day, or if she somehow just knew exactly what I needed to hear. Kevin's parents and I have never been particularly close, although they are very nice people, I haven't really "bonded" with them. But more than anything, I love his parents for that one moment. A moment in my life when my parents were failing me, and his were there to welcome me. To make me feel like I was in a family where I actually belonged. It meant the world to me.
